When I first came across the Caymuller WiFi Extender, I was skeptical. The price was quite low, which made me question its quality.

Setup Experience: A Mixed Bag

Setting up the Caymuller WiFi Extender turned out to be a bit of a challenge. The instructions were poorly written, likely by someone not proficient in English. This made the initial setup process frustrating.

After struggling with the manual, I turned to YouTube for help. Even then, I couldn’t access the main online control panel for the unit, although this didn’t hinder its functionality in the end.

One crucial tip for anyone setting this up: make sure to choose a security protocol before attempting to add a password. This was a step I missed initially, leading to multiple failed attempts. The instructions also amusingly advised me to click the “Finish” button to complete the installation. Despite these hurdles, I eventually got the unit up and running.

Performance: Meeting Expectations with a Few Hiccups

Once set up, I connected the extender directly to my router using a 200-foot Cat-5 Ethernet cable. This setup allowed the extender to broadcast WiFi to the dead zones in my house. I haven’t tried the WiFi-to-WiFi configuration, so I can’t comment on its effectiveness.

The extender claims to have a range of 5000 feet, but in my experience, it’s more like 2000 feet. While this is significantly less than advertised, it still meets my needs.

The signal now reaches my outbuilding, which was previously a WiFi dead zone. However, I did experience some connection drops, usually lasting about an hour, a couple of times a day. This was a bit inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker for me.

Speed and Reliability: Room for Improvement

One of the main drawbacks I encountered was the speed. When I connected my phone to the extender and tested the internet speed, it was a disappointing 4mbps. Switching back to my normal WiFi gave me speeds over 300mbps. Clearly, the extender was not able to maintain the high speeds I was used to, which was a letdown.

Additionally, while the extender reduced the number of dead zones in my house, it didn’t eliminate them completely. Some areas still suffer from weak signals, though there are fewer of them now.

Final Thoughts

The Caymuller WiFi Extender has its pros and cons. On the positive side, it does extend the WiFi coverage, reducing dead zones and providing a stronger signal in areas that previously had none. The setup, though tricky, is manageable with some patience and possibly a bit of external help.

However, the reduced speed and occasional connection drops are significant drawbacks. The advertised range is also somewhat misleading. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly solution and can tolerate a few hiccups, the Caymuller WiFi Extender might be worth considering. Just don’t expect top-tier performance, and be prepared for a bit of trial and error during setup.
