I was thrilled when I first got the Eureka NEC180 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner. As someone who values both convenience and efficiency in household chores, this vacuum seemed like a dream come true.

Lightweight, easy to maneuver, and capable of getting under couches, beds, kitchen tables, and end tables, it felt like a perfect fit for my two-bedroom apartment.

Convenient and Easy-to-Use Attachments

The attachments that come with the vacuum are simple to use, and the dust bin is straightforward to empty. With a battery life that lasts up to 40 minutes, I could clean my entire apartment without needing a recharge. Plus, there’s no dust or debris kickback on my linoleum floors, which was a major plus.

Small Dust Compartment

However, as much as I wanted to love this vacuum, it came with some significant drawbacks. The compartment that holds the dust is very small—about the size of a cup. This means I have to empty it each time before moving on to another room. Given that I have two teenage boys, two dogs, a cat, and incredibly long hair, the dust bin fills up fast.

Disappointing Suction Power

One of the biggest disappointments was the suction power. For a vacuum, I expected it to handle small debris like pieces of candy wrappers easily, but it struggled. This made cleaning my boys’ rooms a frustrating task since it couldn’t pick up the small bits and pieces scattered around.

Challenges with Long Hair

Another issue was with long hair getting tangled in the bristles before it could be sucked up the tube. I had to clean the bristles every single time I used it, which involved cutting out the hair—a process that took about 5+ minutes each time. If the hair wasn’t removed, it would cover the bristles, and the vacuum would fail to pick up anything. The hair also wound up in the gears, causing the bristles to jam. After just ten uses, I had to take the vacuum apart twice to clean it out properly, each time taking around 10+ minutes.

Not a Time Saver

In terms of time-saving, this vacuum didn’t quite hit the mark. The suction power wasn’t impressive, but it was lightweight and easy to use. The battery life was decent, and the attachments were handy, but considering the effort required to keep it running efficiently, it didn’t feel worth the trouble and money.

Deciding to Keep the Vacuum

Despite its flaws, I’ve decided to keep the Eureka NEC180. Due to health issues, I appreciate its lightweight design, which allows me to clean corners and cobwebs with little pain. But this was my third attempt at finding a decent vacuum online, and I’m starting to believe that a good vacuum might not be something I can purchase on the internet.

Durability and Maintenance

In our household, we used it on hardwood floors, vinyl, and small carpet rugs, taking good care of it by washing and air-drying the parts and charging it fully. This vacuum can last long if you maintain it well, especially by clearing hair from the roller. However, battery performance and suction power decreased exponentially after 1.5 years. Initially, it ran for 60 minutes on high power and could pick up hair, rice grains, small debris, pet hair, and cat litter well on low power without the roller. From the 19th month onwards, the runtime dropped to 15 minutes on high power, and it could no longer pick up small debris or cat litter effectively.

Final Verdict

Overall, despite its shortcomings, the Eureka NEC180 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner offers great value for its price. Even though it starts to falter around the three-year mark, I have no regrets about purchasing it. For those who need a lightweight, easy-to-use vacuum and are willing to put in the extra maintenance effort, it’s a decent option.
